Redefining the Iranian Lighting
How to modify the Iranian lighting methods and various traditional patterns in order to utilize them as a modern architectural element?
The goal of this project was to build some panel boxes to be used for covering a facade. However, it is suitable for other purposes like ceiling lighting and ornamental wall lighting. This prototype, which has been built with wood and plexiglass in combination with RGB LEDs and a micro-controller, was the first attempt in this regard. We were able to control the colors by a mobile phone wirelessly.
Lighting is a major feature in many of the Iranian historical architectural masterpieces as believed by the people to be a symbol of the God.
In this project, Orsi patterns which were used in windows to create colorful light on the interior of the building, were our first source of inspiration. These Orsi windows are characterized for using geometric shapes in their designs. We modified one of these patterns to be used in our project.
